The University of California, San Diego Women’s Crew began the San Diego Row for the Cure in 2001 after losing an alumna, Lori Ann Uptegrove, and a Triton family member, Joyce Snyder, to breast cancer over the summer of 2001. Beginning with local teams and a few kayakers, the event has grown over the years to include all forms of human powered craft.
