PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 13, 2006 – RegattaCentral® (www.regattacentral.com)North
America’s leading regatta management solution for the sport of rowing has
joined Row for the Cure® in the fight against breast cancer.
Through an ongoing relationship with Row for the Cure®, RegattaCentral® will
donate regatta registration and management services for each Row for the
Cure® regatta. Row for the Cure® participants and supporters can also make
contributions to local affiliates of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation in participating Row for the Cure® cities through a secure,
online donation tool provided by RegattaCentral and available at
www.RowForTheCure.com.
“Over 200,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in American women
this year. Some of them will be masters rowers,” said Steve Lopez, President
of RegattaCentral® in Columbus, Ohio. ”Row for the Cure® is an important way
to help raise awareness within the rowing community of the life-saving
importance of early detection of breast cancer and to help fund local breast
cancer education and treatment programs,” he said.
Proceeds from each Row for the Cure® benefit the local affiliate of the
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, where 75 percent of the money
raised stays in the community for education and treatment of breast cancer.
The remaining 25 percent of monies raised support national breast cancer
research projects.
“Row for the Cure® is a great way for the rowing community to help fight
breast cancer while participating in a sport they love,” said Row for the
Cure® founder Kathy Frederick, a masters rower at Portland’s Station L
Rowing Club. "Our relationship with RegattaCentral® will help rowers
throughout the country easily participate in Row for the Cure® regattas.”
Row for the Cure® regattas, hosted by local rowing clubs, are third-party
fundraising events benefiting local affiliates of the Susan G. Komen Breast
Cancer Foundation. Since the regatta’s inception in 1994 on Portland’s
Willamette River, Row for the Cure® has expanded to 11 U.S. cities, raising
