What makes the 2008 Row for the Cure Jacksonville unique?

While Row for the Cure Jacksonville is certainly a fundraiser, it is equally important as a way to celebrate survivors, memorialize those we have lost and embrace all families. For anyone who is familiar with the discipline and complete reliance on teammates required in crew, one can appreciate why we believe that rowing is such an appropriate symbol for what is necessary to win the battle against breast cancer.  To watch our young athletes literally pulling together in the fight is awe-inspiring.  The 2008 Row for the Cure Jacksonville will be held on September 27 at the Jacksonville Rowing Club.

With our event, we strive to:

C  ommunicate support to those affected by breast cancer

R  aise funds to honor the promise of Susan G. Komen for the Cure

E  levate awareness of North Florida Rowing

W ork towards a world without breast cancer

Helping those impacted by breast cancer is hugely important to us and to that end, we also offer the opportunity to have a boat row in honor of or in memory of someone touched by breast cancer.   We make this offer to anyone.

Survivor Recognition Package

The Survivor Recognition Package is one way to show support for survivors.  One of the boats at our event will be designated as rowing for a loved one.  If desired, as the boat is launched, and at our closing ceremony, the loved one’s name will be announced.  At the end of the event, the Survivor will receive a package consisting of a Row for the Cure T-shirt that has been signed by each of the athletes on the boat, a photograph of the rowers and a note describing the event. The survivor’s name may also be listed on the T-shirt and in the event program if desired.

Memory Tree Package

The Memory Tree Package is one way to remember loved ones lost to breast cancer.   We adorn a tree with pink ribbons, each one listing the name of someone special.  One of the boats at the event will have the privilege of rowing in memory of a loved one.  If desired, as the boat is launched, and at our closing ceremony, the loved one’s name will be shared.  At the end of the event, the family will receive a package consisting of a Row for the Cure T-shirt that has been signed be each of the athletes on the boat, a photograph of the rowers and a remembrance card with the loved one’s name.  The loved one’s name may also be listed on the T-shirt and in the program if desired.

We ask for a $50 donation for each package requested.  To learn more about this program or  to take advantage of either of these opportunities, and to include loved ones’ names on the T-shirt and in the program, we must receive all requests by September 1, 2008.  Please contact Sandy Silverstein at sdts@bellsouth.net to learn more about Row for the Cure Jacksonville.
